Beijing, China – 13 December 2023 — The “Contributing to Policymaking in Occupational Safety and Health in China and the EU” project stakeholders, including the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL), the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM), and the National Health Commission (NHC), actively participated in the 13th EU-China Dialogue on Work Safety and Health held in Beijing from December 11-12, 2023.
Organized by DG EMPL and MEM, the dialogue brought together key representatives from both regions to discuss current policies and exchange insights on work safety and health. The agenda covered crucial topics such as work accidents in surface mining, policies and technology related to hazardous chemicals, and evidence-based policymaking. Notably, Session 3 of the dialogue, dedicated to the “Contributing to Policymaking in Occupational Safety and Health in China and the EU” Project, played a pivotal role in shaping the discourse on evidence-based policymaking and knowledge exchange. The project stakeholders DGUV, DG EMPL, MEM and NHC all contributed to this session, which also open to outside participants such as the ILO.

Following the EU-China Dialogue, DGUV organized a workshop on December 13 in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China, to disseminate project results and promote evidence-based policy making in occupational safety and health. The workshop, moderated by Wang Yi, Project Manager at DGUV, featured discussions on early symptom monitoring, risk assessment methods for occupational health hazards, and the EU-China Occupational Safety Statistics Project.
Participants from both regions actively engaged in the workshop, presenting project results and sharing experiences. The agenda also included pilot city reporting, pilot company reporting, and expert reports, providing a comprehensive overview of the collaborative efforts made during the project.
The EU-China Dialogue and the Ningbo Workshop showcased the commitment of stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and share knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health. The events fostered meaningful exchanges, contributing to evidence-based policymaking and furthering the goals of the “Contributing to Policymaking in Occupational Safety and Health in China and the EU” project.
